New Town Wharf like many communities in Jomoro, is a very challenged small community with severe portable water problem which often result in varying water borne diseases. The community has a population of about 700 people and the residents are predominantly migrant fishing folks from other parts of the country. The community is very important due to the fact that it is a border outpost on the bank of the Abbey Lagoon of the Ghana Ivory Coast border. The inhabitants drink directly from the Abbey lagoon making them vulnerable to common water borne illnesses.
As a border community, it also inhabits a cross section of security personnel being mainly, personnel of the Customs Exercise and Preventive Service, the Immigration Service, and the Navy. The community has been without portable water for many years and the Elders of the community made a request during the electioneering campaign as a result of which the MP pledged to provide them one at a cost of Gh¢8,500.00. Similar projects are been done in communities such as Takinta and Ahumasuazo all in the Jomoro District. This is part of her grand plan to provide portable water to communities that are not covered under the EU project but need water so critically.
